Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nick Quintero, Founder of Meal Prep on Fleek, located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Meal Prep On Fleek is a community of meal preppers who help people achieve their wellness goals (like weight loss) through healthy, simple, and affordable meal prep recipes.

Tell us about yourself

My journey started when... I had been working out consistently for the past five years with very little progress. In 2016 I started meal prepping almost every weekend. I make ten meals per weekend that I eat for lunch throughout the week. Each meal (most of the time) costs under $4 per meal, and I spend about 3 hours making all ten meals. I've slowly been decreasing in body fat but not losing weight… which is great. To date, I've lost 6% of body fat, going from 23% body fat to 16.7% body fat. I went from a snug 36″ pant waist to a loose 34″ pant waist. Meal prepping was a total game changer for me, and I've spent the last almost decade teaching people how to meal prep.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Accomplishment is a moving target in the media business, but I'm always overjoyed when I hear someone in our community share about a transformation that came about through meal prepping.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As of late, the hardest part has been maintaining relationships with our team, community, and partners. Being present and thoughtful with people is time-consuming and mentally challenging, but it's also life-giving. There is no substitute for personal care and gratitude.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Figure out what you can do that leads to KPI impact, and do it every day.
  2. Be obsessed with customer experience... look for ways to over-deliver.
  3. Write down your processes/steps to accomplishing a task so you have an SOP you can turn over in the future.
