Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Candice Seti, Owner of Me Only Better, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Me Only Better is my private practice, where I work with individuals one-on-one to help identify and work through cognitive, behavioral, and lifestyle changes to create a healthier relationship with food and a healthier outlook overall. I provide services online via video. I also offer DIY-style services online via TheWeightLossTherapist.com. Here people can work through their own programs to address weight loss, binge eating, perimenopause, sabotaging behavior, and many others. I work with individuals that are driven to make healthy changes in their lives and often those that want to break free of their dependence on diets.

Tell us about yourself

My focus on health, wellness, and weight management was really fueled by my own disordered eating and my own struggles with weight loss and diet dependence. Through my process of overcoming that, I wanted to help others accomplish the same. I'm so motivated every day by all of the incredible individuals I work with and seeing their progress and helping them truly achieve their goals!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

About four months after my book was published, I received a call from a woman in Atlanta, Georgia. She told me that she had read my book, and it really resonated with her. She shared it with a friend who had a similar reaction. Ultimately they started a group of 10 women who met weekly—kind of like a book club—to review each section, follow up on the homework assignments, and provide accountability and support for one another. It was amazing to hear the impact the book had on them and how they had built the program into a little community!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As any business owner will tell you, there is never an endpoint. We don't have work shifts or clock in or out, so work really never ends. You have to impose your own boundaries, and it can be difficult to keep work from becoming life!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Define your goals and your audience. It is so important for people to understand exactly what they want to do. Without that definition, people end up fairly aimless and struggle to hone in on their target.
  2. Take Time Out For You. Taking care of yourself is so important to your overall wellness. It helps keep us calm, centered, focused, motivated, and enjoying the moments. A busy entrepreneur or someone just starting a business is prone to let their self-care go, and it is SO valuable during this time!
  3. Be Patient. It may go without saying, but successfully running a business does not happen overnight and is a time commitment. You have to be patient through the process and trust in your vision.
