Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lori Lindgren, Owner of MBSR Process, located in Walnut Creek, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an eight-week course that meets once a week to sample different mindfulness and movement practices while in the community. Our participants come from anywhere and everywhere. Business professionals, teachers, social workers, medical professionals, artists, journalists, and whoever would like tools to work with stress!

Tell us about yourself

I started practicing yoga in 1999 and had a new sense of self-reliance and a new view of my experiences. The meditation piece was spotty, but I appreciated it when it happened. In 2001, I began to train to become a teacher and picked up a book by Ram Dass called "Be Here Now" and started to practice meditation occasionally.

Yoga and meditation, have been steady in my life since then, even though I'd only taught yoga…It wasn't until I started to work with survivors of trafficking that I began to understand the importance of trauma-informed yoga and meditation. I was also diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which involves managing a great deal of pain. MBSR was very helpful in managing these situations.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say the feedback from individuals who discovered their best ways to healthfully move through the challenges we're facing today and hear their relief, joy, and appreciation for the practices they now do regularly.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing the things that are involved but not in my "wheelhouse." The website, the structural necessities, the things that do make what I am passionate about accessible!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have conversations with people who do what you hope to.
  2. Appreciate those who resonate with what you offer.
  3. Accept support from those who'd like to help.
