What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a sports nutrition practice online to help young athletes understand how to eat to feel energized and have high-quality training and performance.

Tell us about yourself

I've been an athlete my entire life and have been interested in health and wellness for as long as I can remember. After pursuing diplomas in broadcast and sports journalism, I went back to school to study nutrition and become a Certified Holistic Nutritionist. My motivation comes from wanting to help other young athletes avoid the mistakes I made with nutrition growing up that hindered my performance and had me sidelined with injuries.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

From 2016 to 2021, I specialized in nutrition for obstacle course race athletes, which allowed me to partner with the Obstacle Course Race World Championships as the official nutritionist. I was also recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Health Leaders by Optimyz Magazine four years in a row (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021).

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It can be very isolating and lonely when starting, running, and growing a business. Friends and family don't really understand what you're going through, and you don't have them to talk to and bounce ideas off of. Your days don't look the same, and you don't work the same "9-5" hours.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Invest in a business coach or mentor.
  2. Join a networking group, mastermind, or co-working space so you can be around other like-minded people.
  3. Don't give up. There will be many ups and downs. Be resilient.
