Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business consulting and services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Bradford Carlton, President of Mayflower Advising, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Mayflower Advising is a revenue consulting firm that works with agencies, firms, and consultants making at least $20,000 per month to show them how to at least 4x their income in 12 months or less without overwhelming decisions, complicated funnels, or team burnout.

Tell us about yourself

I am a former business law attorney turned consultant after my wife had a near-death experience while delivering our daughter. When they put the baby on her chest, my wife declared that she would not go back to work - which was a bit of a problem because she was the trial attorney for our law practice. So, I moved to Las Vegas and got in with an international business consulting firm that made me their President after only two weeks. From there, I have worked with companies in over 20 industries, advised business owners in 43 countries, and have personally referred over $2.5 Billion in business funding needs to investors and lenders.

I am motivated every day to be my best self. I don't like focusing on 3-month, 1-year, or 5-year goals because I can't say for certain what exactly the next 5 minutes of my life will be like. I am ambitious, and I use that ambition to keep me moving forward and upward.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In addition to the stats listed in the question above, getting to be the first person in ten years to stay in the athlete dorms at Don King's training camp in January 2022, when he put on a Heavyweight Title Fight, was the culmination of a long series of efforts to grow my personal brand.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing family with work. I grew up not seeing my parents that much, so I made a vow to make sure my daughter would not feel as deprived of me as I had felt. This, of course, makes it difficult to devote myself to my work as my ambition would prefer.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Spend most of your time soliciting people for new business and stop wasting it on non-sales-related activities until you're making enough money to pay someone to do it for you.
  2. If you're going to get a business partner, avoid a narcissist at all costs. Their promises are always empty, and they'll blame you for their failures no matter how hard you work.
  3. Go big or don't go into business. Most businesses fail because they don't put in the time, energy, or money necessary to make their business successful. If you think in small terms, you'll get small results, which most likely won't cover your expenses and cause your business to fail.
