Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ivirlei Brookes, Owner of Mavenelle, located in Laguna Niguel, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own an app called Mavenelle. It's an app that features guided journaling and meditation alongside daily positive affirmations. The app is primarily for women who want to increase fulfillment and enhance their self-care practices in a way that is easy and accessible.

Tell us about yourself

I am an actor and a former coach. I had been coaching entrepreneurs for many years when a health scare changed my trajectory in 2021. I took a year away from the public and focused on my own healing and wellness. It ignited my passion for helping ambitious women create holistic wellness practices. That's how the app was born as well as my upcoming endeavors. I'm motivated by creating brands and experiences that allow women of all backgrounds to learn about wellness. It's a white-washed space, and I am excited to change that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is seeing women I've coached go from part-time freelancers to managing their teams. I don't think I've ever felt more excited than seeing my clients step into their true potential, and I'm honored to have been a part of that.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think it's having to balance everything while pursuing your dream business. There is no one there to tell you what to do, so you have to make things happen no matter how many times you've fallen.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Prioritize learning yourself. What are your weaknesses? What are your strengths? A very objective approach lets you know where you will need to outsource first and what areas you need to work on.
  2. Network horizontally. Seek out business owners on the same level and make connections. You don't have to always focus on the most successful people in your industry (although mentorship is invaluable). Find peers and grow together.
  3. Be more resourceful than you have ever been. You will run into roadblocks. You have to approach them from a growth mindset and know that everything is figureoutable, as Marie Forleo says. There is nothing you can't accomplish, and if you find that you need to pivot, do it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Thank you for allowing me a moment to share my business and tips with your audience. I am honored. Also, there is a seven-day free trial if your readers want to try out the Mavenelle app! Just head to the website.
