Tell us about yourself

I'm a former 7th-grade homeless dropout who lived in the backseat of the family station wagon along with 18 cats and two dogs and a mother with various psychological challenges and chemical dependencies. Four years of my life on the streets, drugs, alcohol, two failed suicide attempts, and a whole lot more.

My life changed when I was faced with making one of the toughest decisions of my life. At 17 years old, after nearly getting my head blown off my shoulders, I realized I was only getting out of this situation in one of three ways. (1) Police car - since I was doing bad things with bad people (2) A casket - since I was doing bad things with bad people (3) On my own - to go live MY life instead of being mother's slave and whipping boy. I'm nearly done writing the book about my life called "It's Just You & Me Kid," which chronicles my life of physical and emotional abuse/neglect to ultimately wind up returning to school to earn my G.E.D. High School Diploma at 18. Then, spent the next 12 years attending college to finally earn my Masters's Degree the same year I bought my first house.

When I was invited to speak for the 7th and 8th-grade classes at my junior high school, I dropped out; I became hooked on sharing my story and the ways I overcame so many limitations and fear in my life to create an amazing experience shifting people's beliefs and their confidence for what they could truly handle and achieve on their own terms!! I've been a mindset coach for over 20 years as well as a professional speaker. What inspires me daily is that I'm working toward leaving an amazing legacy my son (six years old) and my family and supporters will be proud of when my time comes.

To make this happen, I wrote my eulogy in 2008, and now every day, when I wake up before my eyes open, I say what I'm grateful for and what my INTENTIONS are for that day! Always includes "Being present and playful with my son" and "Using my words and actions to leave a legacy for which I'll be supremely proud!"

I keep myself inspired by not watching the news or following politics. It's all unbelievable B.S. and is geared towards negativity and dividing us. I instead chose to see people of all colors, races, and any other label not as different but unique, and together we call ourselves HUMANITY, and TOGETHER we can change the trajectory of this world to be loving and inclusive!!! Yes, I too, have a dream!!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Leaving my lucrative "day job" as Director of Operations after 26 years in the same company to do my business 100% on its own. Then Covid happened. So I'm stoked I'm still rocking my business, and my podcasts are in over ten countries each.

One of my biggest accomplishments is writing/finishing this memoir about my life on the streets, surviving day to day to ultimately create an amazing life of contribution, impact, and love for all, regardless of the lack of love, intimacy, and support I had growing up.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Staying true to YOUR vision when times are tough! So many people have ideas, suggestions, or thoughts about what YOU should be doing with YOUR business, but I have learned to TRUST YOUR GUT and surround yourself with mentors, coaches, and masterminds to ensure you have a T.E.A.M. in your corner at all times!!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do that which inspires you daily to go and create a legacy you and your family will be proud of.
  2. Fail your way to success - don't wait for everything to be "perfect" and instead go fail your way to success. Learn, implement, and grow every day.
  3. Go work in the industry for which you want to start a business. Recently I advised one of my clients to go work at a restaurant/bar for at least a year before he starts his own restaurant. Go work those various positions, become a night manager, and make those "mistakes" learning on the job, then go start your own business and bring three things that make your situation/experience unique!!!
