Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Bilboe, Intuitive Transformation Coach of Mary’s Place, located in Ormskirk, England.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an intuitive transformation coach, and I help people at life’s crossroads to get clarity and confidence to make transformative life decisions. I mostly work with people who are ready to embrace change and who want to follow their authentic path.

Tell us about yourself

I have 35 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and almost 20 years of experience in Higher Education. Until 2020, I was on a steady academic path and was about to commence the final part of my Ph.D. In January 2020, my beautiful and previously healthy 22-year-old daughter, Mary-Lou, died unexpectedly. We were all devastated. Next to Lou’s bed, I found a deck of Tarot cards, and by the end of 2020, I had started to play with these and felt as though I was connecting with my daughter! In February 2021, I joined Richard Knight’s Tarot Academy, and by June 2021, I had done my first paid reading. Richard has always encouraged a coaching approach- and this aligns perfectly with my 35 years of experience supporting people. My goal now is to establish a healing center and training school, which will be called Mary’s Place. It will take a while, but I have a very clear motivation- a legacy for my daughter which will serve others.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Actually, getting out and doing this! It was quite a pivot to ditch my Ph.D. in favor of learning Tarot and other healing modalities (such as reiki, massage, and reflexology).

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Having the guts to put yourself out there and believing that success is possible. I really do not want to fail at this, but rather than telling myself, “what if I fail” I instead say… “what if I succeed”…

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your homework.
  2. Talk to people.
  3. Be open to being advised- people have to tread the path before and will help you.
