Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Martha Yanak, Owner of Marti’s Cupcakes & More, located in Pawtucket, RI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a bakery/cupcakery. My customers are from Pawtucket and the surrounding cities in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Tell us about yourself

I have owned my business for 5 1/2 years. I have always wanted to own a bakery or restaurant-style business. I had come across the then business under a different name that was for sale and did what I could to own it!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments is being able to work with a high school in Providence and also surviving the pandemic!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having a limit to what I can do in one day. I will have a full day with orders on the weekend. Someone will call for a cake that day, and I won’t tell them NO!! It’s not in my vocabulary! I do my best to get it done.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Go for it. This is my dream! Don’t give up on your dreams! Don’t be afraid to show your heart through your work. I bake with love every day, and everyone who walks through my door gets a smile!! Most importantly, don’t forget to say THANK YOU!!! They are coming to your business! They chose you out of everyone in your field. Show your customers you appreciate them because, without them, your dream may not happen!!

Where can people find you and your business?
