What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work as an executive coach, trainer, and professional speaker. My customers are professionals in all fields who want to improve their confidence, clarity, and conviction when speaking before internal and external audiences.
Tell us about yourself
I got started in my business after completing a master's in Mass Communication and then joining a Toastmasters Club. As my background was in education, my speeches were well organized, and, as I'm very creative, I was a natural fit for becoming a public speaking professional. My motivation comes from empowering others to be the very best possible presenter. Helping them develop a positive mindset is a real game changer.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Developing and trademarking The SET Principle, a program based on neuroscience, helps people understand how the emotional and logical parts of the brain work so they can gain greater control of their emotions at work, at home, at school, and behind the wheel. Results are greater focus, productivity, less stress, and more positive communication with others.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It's always seeking new business, as a majority of my work is for a limited time period.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Work with a business coach so you have a realistic plan.
- Be sure you are willing to work hard and network a lot.
- Understand that it takes a few years to build a successful business.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
In spite of the hard work, being your own boss is very rewarding. You also have more flexibility with your schedule, which is important if you have a family.
