What's your business, and who are your customers?

Marrin Costello Jewelry is a childhood hobby turned international accessories brand. Our water-resistant, sustainable, hypoallergenic jewelry is sold online and in upward of 300 retail partners across the states, Singapore, Canada, and Australia.

Tell us about yourself

Marrin Costello is an American businesswoman + designer + brand architect. My career as a creative began at age seven, after receiving a bead kit for Christmas. Selling my creations at local San Francisco Bay Area craft faires and local boutique retailers while in grammar school, My love for both business and fashion was realized at a very young age.

While the MARRIN COSTELLO LLC ® team is headquartered in Tampa, Florida — Costello travels the globe visiting the brand's retailers, collaborating with other businesses, and inspiring the upcoming collections. Costello also shares my love and talent for entrepreneurship with my business + branding consulting clients.

Costello also celebrates my fellow movers-and-shakers by recording a weekly radio show + podcast where I interview movers and shakers across all fields to chat all things motivation, inspiration, and entrepreneurship — eponymously called @marrincostelloradio. And at the center of the MARRIN COSTELLO LLC company is a mission to help people feel fearless, fabulous, and like the best versions of themselves.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Every accomplishment still feels like the biggest accomplishment. We are constantly evolving and implementing new practices to make sure the company stays on trend, relevant, and operating as a well-oiled machine.

Some of our most iconic moments throughout the brand's history was having the collection. Featured on American Idol in 2008, officially turning the hobby into a brand in 2018, becoming sold on large eCommerce retailers like VICI and LULUS, and finally being the featured jewelry brand in Rachel Zoe's Curateur subscription box this past Spring of 2022.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Running a business is no joke! Every day is both a blessing and a challenge. There's never a shortage of items to troubleshoot and things to celebrate. I've found that maintaining a neutral stance throughout the ups and downs, coupled with staying malleable and fluid as one's business evolves, is truly the secret sauce of running a successful company.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First and foremost, start! The sooner you begin, the sooner you will wish you would have started. Perfectionism is a myth — just go for it, and evolve/improve/adapt along the way.

Know that all of your problems will not be solved in any one single day. Take at least one actionable step towards your goal (either short-term or long-term) every single day.

Create space for clarity. The clearer you can get on your vision and goals (again, both short-term and long-term), the faster you will be able to achieve them.
