Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Oliver Goffe, Co-Founder of Marloe Watch Company, located in Henley-on-Thames, United Kingdom.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Marloe Watch Company is an online retailer of mechanical watches - we design and produce our own brand of watches and sell them directly to consumers through our beautiful and content-rich website.

Tell us about yourself

I started Marloe following a disappointing experience with a watch I had purchased - I went to change the battery and realised how cheap the internal components were, and that drove me to start a business selling products that are well-made and valued. To this day, we continue to make fantastic products at very attractive price points. The motivation to deliver products like this to our customers is palpable on a daily basis.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Ultimately getting through the first 3 years. Most new businesses fail in that period, but we were very careful about how we grew and who we worked with, maintaining a low-risk model, and managed to flourish in those initial, sometimes challenging, years.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Switching off. Having a young family and balancing my time is my biggest challenge - Marloe is like a third child to me, so it's vital that I split my time equally between my work and my family. Managing your time well also helps to give you a healthy outlook.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Justify every pound or dollar you're spending.
  2. Be optimistic.
  3. Enjoy yourself.
