Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marlo Higgins, Founder of Marlo Higgins Success Coaching, located in Iowa City, IA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm Marlo Higgins, a business owner just like you. I'm here to help you create a successful business that doesn't impact your freedom or peace of mind.

Tell us about yourself

People are my product, and performance is the outcome. Like most of us, I've taken challenges as they've come. Illness, bad business deals, long hours, lost prospects—all of those experiences have taught me how to stand tall through the storm and, most importantly, how to rebuild.

One thing that you'll never see me do is stay small or play small. I learned early on that the magic is in the "stretch zone", where you fortify boundaries and find your balance of making an impact in the world while spending time doing what you love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my most significant accomplishments is calling myself a "triple-crown" entrepreneur - meaning I've started a business from the ground up, rebranded a successful business, and finally launched my solo brand.

Understanding my clients' experiences at any level of business development allows me to deliver custom strategies and build trust FAST. But honestly, I'm most proud of the relationships I've created with today's innovators and game-changers. Being able to watch them confidently change the world is gratifying.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest lesson we'll ever learn as business owners is that success requires hard work AND rest - without both, we'll never be satisfied, no matter how much we accomplish. The key is finding the right balance for you and your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust yourself. Your intuition is your oracle.
  2. Chasing the goal is chasing the feeling. Focus on how you want to feel.
  3. Don't get yourself into something you can't bring yourself out of. You can be a badass without burning bridges.
