Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marley Goldin, Co-Founder of Marley's Menu, located in Brunswick, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My menu is a collection of recipes, sustainability articles, and firsthand stories that invite people to live an eco-friendlier lifestyle while discovering their passion in the kitchen! Through green tips and achievable recommendations in each and every recipe, the platform is designed to encourage the home cook to take small steps to a greener life without skimping on flavor, creativity, or luxuries of the modern gourmet diet.

Tell us about yourself

The creation of Marley's Menu is a culmination of my deep love for cooking and my passion for and educational background in Environmental Health Science. I stand firm in my belief that small changes to our daily diet and lifestyle can make a big impact over time. It's my mission to teach people the little steps they can take toward a more attainable, sustainable lifestyle through their food choices. Finding a way to fuse my passion and my mission has been a dream come true!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

By and large, the most rewarding thing about creating Marley's Menu has been the connections I've made with people. I feel it is such a great privilege (and responsibility) to be in people's kitchens with them, helping them create new dishes, explore unique flavors, and learn a little bit about sustainability along the way. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many in this way!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is the lack of separation between work and the rest of my life. Balancing being a mom, a wife, and a business owner with my other responsibilities and hobbies is a juggling act. Giving myself permission to take time off to prioritize myself and my family has been a challenge and an important lesson in patience and grace.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Before getting started, identify you're "why." Why are you building this business? This will be the constant thing you lean on for motivation, clarity, and hope through the ups and downs of growing a new business.
  2. Be flexible. Things probably (most likely) will not exactly go as planned. It's great to have a plan, but it's better to be able to adjust and adapt.
  3. Go all in. We only regret the chances we don't take.
