Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nikki Berkel, Owner of Marketing for Coaches, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work with coaches to help them learn how to get clients.
Tell us about yourself
I started as a life coach, then after failing because I was clueless about marketing, I learned about marketing. I began to see why I had such a hard time getting clients, made the changes I needed in my business, and then began helping other coaches learn how to market their businesses too.
I have two motivators. On the personal side, I want to set my schedule and do work I love. On the business side, I know how it feels to spend thousands of dollars and tons of your time trying to launch a business and then fail, so I want to help other coaches avoid that and experience success faster.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been keeping my business going, alive, and healthy since 2019.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things to get used to as a business owner is that there will always be challenges. If you want to help people the best you can, if you want to create a new coaching offer, if you want to grow your business in any way, there is always some kind of challenge. I've trained my brain not to worry about this but to trust that if I've figured things out this far, I can keep doing it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Expect it to take longer than you planned for.
- Only take advice from people who have had success doing exactly what you're doing in business.
- Leave room in your budget for personal/professional development.
