What's your business, and who are your customers?
Since 2001, mark steiner, inc. (msi) has been a learning consulting company specializing in eLearning. With experience in all phases and aspects of the learning process, we offer intelligent, honest, and practical expertise. msi applies cost-effective and integrated learning programs to each company's unique business, resulting in increased productivity, improved performance, and efficiencies. Clients are wide and varied: banking, technology, industrial, telecom, professional services, health care, and others.
Tell us about yourself
I went back to school and got a Master's Degree in Industrial Training in 1991, and the rest, as they say, is history. I got into eLearning pre-internet, back when it was called Computer-Based Training (CBT), and started learning development tools such as Authorware, Captivate, and Storyline.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Staying and thriving in the eLearning consulting world for 30 years, with 20+ years being as a small business owner.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Managing the sales pipeline, predicting demand, and keeping work and demand steady.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You must provide products or services that people will want to purchase.
- Get help at the beginning: writing the business plan, legal advice, business/accounting advice, help with sales, setting up your business online, social media assistance, and establishing business processes.
- Love what you do and pour yourself into your work, but stay balanced with your personal life, too.
