Social & Digital Strategist - Marissa Pick

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in branding and marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marissa Pick, Founder of Marissa Pick Consulting LLC., located in Short Hills, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Marissa Pick, and I am the founder of Marissa Pick Consulting LLC., where we provide strategic consulting focused on Digital Transformation, Content Marketing, Social Media Strategy, Personal Branding, and more. Customers include those looking to build a strategy for leveraging social media and digital marketing as a part of long-term success for their business.

Tell us about yourself

I always dreamed of consulting, and four years ago, I finally decided to make the leap from full-time to consulting and set up my LLC. I decided to put myself first after realizing I was missing precious moments at home with my family, friends, and kids. Once I refocused and prioritized what mattered to me at that given moment, I felt at ease and knew I'd made the right decision. Life is too short to be unhappy. I believe in making a plan, working hard, and doing my best. I am motivated each day by the ability to be on the important things which matter for our family and greeting my kids every day with open arms. I know building a business won't happen overnight. It's a process filled with both successes and failures, and I'm focused on living in the moment and appreciating each step of the ongoing journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a digital marketing and social media strategist, I'm only as good as the work I deliver, and I have to "practice what I preach." for my own brand. I spend a fair amount of time each day developing and posting content. I've been featured in many media outlets within 2022, including Nasdaq, Motherly, Crunchbase, Adello, and more. I also received several honors I'm proud of this year. I was named one of Adello Magazine's Top 50 Business & Marketing Visionaries, included as one of Accelevents Influential Event Planners You Should Be Following, received Corporate Vision's MarTech Awards 2022, Best B2B Digital Marketing Consultant (East Coast the USA and listed as one of Marketing Insider Group's Top B2B Marketing Experts to Follow, January 2022.

I'm so proud of the honors within my field and the ability to have a work-life balance that works for me to enjoy time with my husband and children (Reid, who is five, and Lucas, who's 8). It's a balance, but I've never been more fulfilled and happy, both personally and professionally.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Dealing With The Unknown! One of the hardest things I've faced as a business owner is dealing with the unknown and adapting and learning as I go! Throughout the past few years, I've had ups and downs with business, rebuilt my business following a global pandemic, and learned valuable lessons along the way!

I've tried to implement a routine in place to help me get into the right mindset each and every day. Whether it's an early morning peloton ride, breakfast with my family, or a brief morning meditation session or yoga session before work, I try to take the time to get focused and seize each day which can really make all the difference within my long-term success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be interesting. It's just not going to work otherwise. No matter what. Differentiate yourself and stand out, offer a service that's needed and work to provide value for your customer.
  2. Be Interested. Look around and find others who are sharing things you like. Then interact with them! Create great content short & memorable content (video, engaging, etc.)
  3. Be experimental. Have fun, and Try things! You live and learn, and your business plan should adjust as you go!
