What's your business, and who are your customers?

Chuckanut Brewery is an award-winning brewery with a tap room and beer hall. Our customers are of all ages, but those over 21 years of age are able to enjoy our beer. Under 21 can enjoy our beer hall and tap room in Portland, OR, and Burlington, WA.

Tell us about yourself

I was trained as a dancer, but my husband and I started a couple of breweries starting in 1984. Now I dance through all my work at the brewery! It takes a lot of energy to keep everything moving, and the dancing background helped me in many ways to keep up!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Winning awards for our beers and working with so many young people that have gone on to do great things, including starting their own breweries.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You can never really rest, it's like having a baby, and there's always something more you can be doing to make it better.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get organized, and don't procrastinate.
  2. Be a good leader and take care of your employees.
  3. Love your customers and the product you are making!
