Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching and blogging but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Margaret Bourne, a Course Creator and Blog Coach based in Burlington, ON, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

MargaretBourne.com is a blog coaching business with a blog and supporting resources and tools. It's for new and intermediate bloggers who want to get serious about starting and growing their blogs into successful businesses.

Offering blog coaching services for those seeking one-on-one support, I help aspiring bloggers, and solopreneurs get past all the confusion, overwhelm, and a multitude of challenges they face as beginners. Getting past these initial hurdles, I help them determine the best monetization strategies, build their personal branding strategies and create plans to get them to the next level.

Tell us about yourself

For over 20 years, I worked in the public relations and marketing industries. Leaving intense agency positions, I took on the toughest job in the world - aka "mom". It was a couple of years later that I decided to take my blogging hobby and turn it into a blog coaching business. I had many reaching out to me for advice on how to start lifestyle blogs. Since starting MargaretBourne.com and the coaching business in 2020, I've realized I truly love to see my readers and coaching clients say that I've helped make blogging easier for them. My greatest motivation is when I have them tell me that they are less stressed out over all the things they have to learn. They have a plan in place; thanks for my support. And they've had success with the tips and resources I provide them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been hearing from my clients, customers, and readers that my tips, resources, or tools have helped them achieve a goal. I know then that I'm doing something right. One of my biggest accomplishments has been building online friendships with my clients and community followers. Having a network that supports what you're doing and believes in you is, in my opinion, a great accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the time to do all I need to do as a business owner (with a full-time job and family) is one of the most challenging things. Many "mompreneurs" will agree that juggling being a mom and running a business means you need to be organized, with smart productivity hacks to keep you on track. Finding what works can take time. Along the way, you need to remember to take breaks and focus on family needs and relationships.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Choose a niche in which you excel and are passionate about.
  2. Invest in your business and yourself: to make money, you will need to spend money.
  3. Seek support: coaches, consultants, and freelancers can greatly help you propel your business forward faster.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

With starting and growing a blog, many want to be pro bloggers making six figures within six months. Great things take time. I always say, "Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither is a great blog."
