Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maribel Saldanha, Owner of Mardanha’s, LLC., located in Sunny Isles Beach, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Mardanha’s, LLC is a beauty studio that specializes in lash and brow services as well as body waxing, facials, and massages. It is a one-stop beauty shop. Our customers are both men and women who understand the importance of looking presentable and your best, but also need to be efficient with time to accomplish their goals.

Tell us about yourself

I’ve always had a passion for beauty. Even before I had my beauty license, I would make ends meet by selling cosmetics such as Mary Kay. It was my passion. What motivates me each day to do what I do is to improve my client’s quality of life by helping them with these “beauty shortcuts” to cut on time.

I love to see my client’s reactions when their lashes are done and when their brows look groomed. It’s one less thing they have to worry about while they are getting ready for the day. I love to see the boost in their confidence

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think that my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is impacting not only the life of my clients but also imparting wisdom and educating my staff. I think it’s so important to encourage growth, and I love to see my girls learn something new that will always help them in the business and out of business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is learning to adapt. Especially in the beauty industry, there’s always a new trend, a new look, or a new service that is coming out. When we get caught up in the day-to-day, we sometimes forget to do our research and stay on top of the game. Thankfully, now I have my daughter to help with that.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just go for it. Many times people never start because they are waiting until the right moment. But the right moment is now. There will be mistakes, but that’s how you learn.
  2. Always do your research. Know as much as you can about your industry, competition, area, demographic, etc. Knowing this information will help you make better decisions as your business grows.
  3. Build relationships! A good business maintains good relationships with clients and staff. A simple catching up with a client or staff member can solidify loyalty. Be human.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Building a business is always hard, but the benefits and impact you can create are truly rewarding.
