What's your business, and who are your customers?
We're a local bakery in Brewerytown, Philadelphia. Our customers are the locals of the neighborhood, as well as folks from around the city who come to our store.
Tell us about yourself
I just really wanted a bakery in the neighborhood, I had the capital, so I started it myself.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Ensuring that the business runs for the community and for the employees. In our day jobs, my partner and I are fortunate enough not to need any additional wealth, and we have committed to never drawing a single dollar out of the business for ourselves.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Listening to other business-owning rich morons complain about how much they would rather just sit on piles of money than give it to the people who actually need it or be of any benefit to the community. Any person who can have a moral responsibility to give their wealth and assets to their community. We only strive for success so that we can more effectively help others; any other purpose is entirely self-serving. Anyone who takes more than they need is immoral.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a lot of money.
- Give all that money away to people who have not had access to the same opportunities for success that you have.
- Live modestly.
