Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marcella Saeva, owner of Marci Farmacy, located in Raleigh, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Functional Medicine Pharmacist with an advanced degree in functional nutrition. Owner of Marci Farmacy, where I help women address hormonal issues through functional testing and assessment. Utilizing a holistic approach that involves nutrition, exercise, supplementation, and lifestyle modifications, including meditation, yoga, and other mindfulness tools.

Too often, women are disregarded in mainstream conventional medicine when it comes to hormonal imbalances. All too often, they are told the pains of womanhood are "normal" or that it's all in their heads. I serve as an advocate for women's health and work together with my client's health care providers to address all the issues she may be facing. It is a holistic approach and a whole system approach taking the time to fit all the complicated pieces together to find a true resolution.

Tell us about yourself

With over 20 years of experience within conventional medicine pharmacy practice and not seeing any of our patients truly getting better even with all the advances within the healthcare system, it made me question our intentions. I stumbled upon functional medicine, where the focus was on addressing the underlying issues of chronic health conditions. Functional medicine's approach uses less invasive methodologies like those involving nutrition, exercise, supplementation, and lifestyle modifications while addressing the underlying root cause.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is staying true to my core beliefs while never wavering from my commitment to help women where they are on their health and wellness journey. There is always room to move and bend within your own practice running your own business. There are no set guidelines or hard set rules when being of service to others.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner has to be time management. When you are working on something you love, it is hard to set boundaries around when you work and when you don't. So working and building a business I love, I have had to learn to set aside designated time to work on and in my business and when I need to "clock out."

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stay consistent.
  2. Discipline over motivation EVERY DAY.
  3. Make any and all decisions swiftly without procrastination.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) and a 200-hour registered yoga instructor. I love studying metaphysics and truly believe our thoughts can be powerful guides to the world we want to create.
