Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marianna Vigliotti, Owner of Mar & Co. Beauty, located in Marlton, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an on-location beauty team specializing in natural and timeless bridal designs.

Tell us about yourself

I started working in a salon as a receptionist when I was 16 and still in high school. I went to college like I thought I needed to, but I always focused on learning the art of professional makeup. I moved to LA for a summer to learn from the best. Right out of school, I worked heavily in a runway and high fashion. I loved the pressure, the pace, and the versatility required to succeed in that environment.

After a good run in film and style, I took a little break, had a baby, and was a full-time bartender for about six years. I got back into makeup, working for a few bridal companies. Ultimately, I decided I could do it better and started building my bridal business. I knew I didn't want to hustle from job to job in my 30s and 40s and needed to create something sustainable for the life I wanted.

My goals here with Mar & Co. are to build a great life that allows me to spend time with my daughter and provide for her. And also to provide my employees with an opportunity to work a job they love and provide for their families!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We've grown to a multiple six-figure, bicoastal beauty business in 12 months. I'm so grateful to our clients and our team for their support!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Decision fatigue. It affects me physically sometimes as well. Constantly being responsible for making the calls and keeping things going is exhausting and overwhelming sometimes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You must pay your dues and make mistakes. It's a MUST to understand how to move forward successfully.
  2. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and be open about what is not working.
  3. Celebrate your accomplishments! Be proud of every little step!
