Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristen Kellogg, Founder & Creative Director of Mapped Wellness, located in Swansea, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Living well and healthy is much more than nutrition. It's about getting to the root of what's actually causing your body to be out of balance. We provide health coaching solutions using functional medicine to get to the root cause of the symptoms you are experiencing. Our aim is to get you back to operating at your optimal. We can help with…IBS, autoimmune diseases, weight loss plateau, thyroid dysfunction, asthma, allergies, skin issues like eczema, diabetes, gut health, and more.

Tell us about yourself

I couldn't find answers for my longstanding eczema, autoimmune disease, ovarian cysts, and other pesky symptoms through western medicine. So I went on her own journey through integrative and functional medicine to find answers. I am thrilled to help people prolong their life and add to the quality of it along the way.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to truly change someone's life is the most rewarding aspect. Whether it's helping someone lose 30 pounds, balance their hormones after dealing with hypothyroidism, or reverting to eczema, I am fulfilled by the work I do with others.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Having to be your own marketer is always a challenge - I create content for my business (I have a background in filming) as well as help my clients through health coaching. Finding a happy balance can sometimes be challenging.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start. By simply starting, you will improve your skillset and truly become an expert. But that takes doing the work. Don't let yourself overwhelm you into not starting. You're ready.
  2. Be consistent. You just have to stay the course little by little, and you will start to see where your strengths and weaknesses lie and what's working and where you need to shift.
  3. Become part of a community. If you have a small business, it can sometimes be a lonely road. Joining a like-minded community of other entrepreneurs will help keep you excited and also give you new ideas.
