What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the creator of Mamafrog Baby Eco-Friendly Subscription Boxes. We curate sustainably sourced baby essentials from small, diversely owned businesses and coordinate them each month with brain development guidance. Our customers are environmentally conscious new parents, grandparents, and people wanting to give great baby gifts.
Tell us about yourself
I am a board-certified music therapist and mother of five. While raising my own babies, one of whom had special needs, I saw a lot of unnecessary products being marketed to new parents. Not only that, but I saw the waste that those products produced, from the materials used to make them all the way down to the packaging. Also, I worked with tiny babies whose development could be helped by making simple changes to the way they were talked to or even carried. Having a positive impact on the lives of babies and their caregivers while taking care of the planet is what motivates me every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My mom faced devastating physical and emotional abuse as a young mother. It means a lot to me to be able to give lots of baby products to women's shelters.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
You have to wear many different hats starting out, and some of them require a steep learning curve. Probably the hardest is managing the financial aspects, like when and where to spend money in your business in order just to stay afloat.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Number one would be to create your business around something you are passionate about so that when things get hard, you will want to keep going. Then formulate a mission that will help you build an awesome team. Next, start delegating to other people as soon as you can!
