Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mallika Malhotra, Founder of Mallika Malhotra.co, located in Falmouth, ME, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Mallika Malhotra, and I am a brand strategist, mentor, and speaker at Mallika Malhotra.Co. I work with female entrepreneurs who don't have the time or expertise to nail their brand message. I help my clients gain clarity, stop second-guessing and build a powerful brand that is magnetic, memorable, and money-making. My mission is to empower women to unleash their potential, so they can achieve leadership and success.

Tell us about yourself

After years of working in the corporate advertising world on brands like L'Oreal, Oil of Olay, and Clorox, I now help entrepreneurs master their message, show up as the face of their business, and find their power niche. I am committed to helping women next-level their businesses, stop hiding, and start emerging as leaders. I'm a strong believer in getting out of your comfort zone, taking action, and implementing ideas. I've mentored and photographed hundreds of female entrepreneurs, helping them stand out and show up. I am passionate about helping women gain confidence and discover their power. My friends and clients call me the brand energizer and master connector.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have been an entrepreneur for 20 years! Two decades of learning, growing, pivoting, failing, winning, and taking risks. I am proud of the business that I have created and that it is still standing after so many years. I have built a strong brand and an even stronger community. Leading a network of amazing women who are action-oriented, results-driven, and community-minded has been a huge accomplishment for me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It can feel really lonely and overwhelming being a solopreneur. Everything lands on your shoulders, and I am often questioning the decisions and investments that I make in my business. Is this a good idea? Will this fail? I have learned to trust myself, delegate and hire experts to help me along the way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three tips in the business building journey:

  1. Invest in a coach or mentor. Their expertise and objective perspective will help guide you, save you money in the long run, and fast-track you towards growth.
  2. Find your community. Surround yourself with like-minded women who will be there to cheer you on, offer a shoulder to cry on, and push you out of your comfort zone.
  3. Self-care is key to sustainable success. Being an entrepreneur is an all-consuming, 24/7 job. Make sure to take breaks, set boundaries, and take care of yourself. Your business will thank you!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You don't need to do business alone. It's much more fun and fulfilling if you involve others in your journey. Whether it's collaborating with a partner, hiring a mentor, or joining a networking group, put yourself out there and create connections. The secret to success is always in the relationships that you build.
