Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fitness and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zhanna Strilets, owner of Pilates Difference, located in Milton, Ontario, Canada. Zhanna speaks 3 languages: English, Russian and Ukrainian.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work with a variety of clients. Some of them want to tone up their body, keep themselves in good shape and enjoy their activities or sports. Others come to pilates realizing that they have not done much for their health or body, but they still want to enjoy life to its fullest. There are also clients who discover pilates as a way of safe exercise due to their body limitations or injuries.

Tell us about yourself

I love meeting new people, and once I realize I can help them to feel better or be able to do what they didn't even think they could, that drives my motivation to continue the work that I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Good question! I think being able to expand my services and attract people who see value in functional movement. Everything we do during our pilates sessions, clients can easily take and apply to their daily lives. Whether it's working on body awareness, strength, or fine-tuning body mechanics.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say managing time and keeping a work-life balance. Most of the time I don't feel like I'm working, rather I enjoy the time with my clients and being part of their wellness journey.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

It's definitely a learn and grow journey to start and run your business. Here are my 3 tips for new entrepreneurs.

  1. Know who you are serving. Find your niche market first and how you can help them to improve their lives.
  2. Set up a marketing plan. Without getting your word out there, nobody will know about your services.
  3. Know your strengths and outsource your weaknesses. There's only 24hr in a day! Don't spend your time too much on something you are not good at; better give it to professionals.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It's been such a blessing to serve my clients! I feel so appreciated and trusted. I want to keep sharing my knowledge and skills. Stories of my clients are so inspiring that they make me look forward to serving them better keep learning new techniques and approaches.
