What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a freelance makeup artist who has a flair for the art & craft of makeup intertwined with aesthetics. I do weddings, creative editorial photoshoots, prom, headshots, fashion/Pageant shows, TV/theatre productions, and SFX; in general, anyone who wants makeup is my potential customer. I would love to make my clients feel relaxed and beautiful inside and out when they step out of my makeup chair.

Tell us about yourself

Born and raised in India, I grew up learning to appreciate the blend of beauty from different ethnicities in my extraordinary birthplace. The story of how I got into Makeup Artistry and the places it’s taken me. I’ve learned in life that everybody has a story to tell…whether it’s grand or humble; we’ve all had experiences that have shaped us into the people we are today. I believe that everyone has a special gift, and it is their duty to share it with the world. Mine is the ability to see art in everything. The face is my canvas. I love to bring out the most confident version of myself. Whether you are a bride, a runway model, a real estate agent or an entrepreneur, or a high school girl, one thing always holds true- when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you are in the best state of mind to give your gift to the world. I truly believe this.

Every day I wake up with the mindset that my work is going to help my clients be the most confident and beautiful version of themselves and help them achieve whatever their goals are on the important days of their lives. Or, to be specific, to make them happy. It is this mindset that drives me to be the best makeup artist that I can possibly be. It takes learning, it takes practice, and it takes lots of patience- but I know in my heart that I am helping change the world one face at a time. I love to meet new people and understand their culture Life … is one of the biggest reasons I love being a makeup artist. There is so much happiness in creating something.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I started taking myself seriously. I got to work In NYFW 2022 and GSF Cannes 2021 award winner. But most importantly, to manage my finances and follow my dreams.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Failure is part of the growth process. The toughest part of founding and running your own business is the FEAR of uncertainty in an uncertain world.

It is tough being a woman entrepreneur. Defying social expectations. Accessing funding. Struggling to be taken seriously. Owning your accomplishments. Building a support network. Balancing business and family life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself.
  2. Surround yourself with the right people.
  3. Perseverance.
