What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are in the business of ‘lightening the load’ for women around the globe! DIOSA Designs Inc. offers smart-designed, functional, carry-all products such as versatile backpacks, tote bags, various purses as well as other products and accessories that are sustainable and ethically sourced.
Tell us about yourself
I am a serial entrepreneur and love starting businesses. I am partners with my daughter, Katie Thompson. DIOSA Designs began in November 2017, when we saw a need for the ultimate woman’s backpack. Finding solutions to everyday problems is something I revel in. Carrying extra “stuff” in your hands can be a nuisance, especially when you don’t have the right carry-all bag. We sold our first one in June 2021! I can’t wait to get out of bed in the morning, and I hate to leave the office at the end of the day. Working with Katie and the amazing team we have surrounded ourselves with is inspiring and motivates me!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Starting a business with my daughter, Katie, during the COVID pandemic and building our incredible team.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Worrying about how to keep your business going during the downtimes, like during COVID. When you have an amazing staff, you worry for their well-being as well as your own.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure your business offers something people need every day. Fads are just that: fads!
- Find Mentors you trust and believe in you. Handpick your team - make sure they align with your values and morals.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
There are many ups and downs to starting a business and being successful. You may have to fail at one business to learn and lead your next business to success. Our motto is taken from BCorp: ‘Perfect is the Enemy of Good.”
