What's your business, and who are your customers?
modestly m candle co is a small batch soy candle company pouring in Kansas City. Production is kept simple and small, with every candle poured with care and precision. The candles are available in numerous scents; every scent is made with only the finest ingredients without chemicals, dyes, or preservatives.
Tell us about yourself
I have always been creative at heart, which led to the founding of modestly m candle co in 2016. a whim is responsible for falling in love with the art of candle-making and bringing all-natural soy candles to life at a price everyone can afford. nothing makes me happier than seeing and hearing the joy that others experience from the products. 💓 I love sharing my hand-poured products with current and future customers! Aside from candles, I am a proud wife and mother to one amazing son, who is active in all things sports, and three fur babies!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Managing, creating, and balancing being a business owner is a huge accomplishment for me. I am responsible for every aspect of the business and do it while managing an FT job and family. Seeing the growth and trajectory of YoY is a huge accomplishment. Taking the small steps to keep moving forward someday is so rewarding.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Not being hard and critical of all the things you could be doing compared to others is hard. There is always going to be something you could or should have done - but didn't have time to accomplish. The hardest part in that scenario is being able to keep focused and move forward.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Feeling confident about your business is one thing - but making sure to have a written plan with goals is a must for starting a business. Make sure you have time to allocate; everything that needs to happen with the business is now up to you, and you're on call all of the time. Lastly, have fun and enjoy the process. Things happen when they are meant to happen.
