Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sylvie Beljanski, Founder of Maison Beljanski, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Maison Beljanski, we sell high-quality dietary supplements to help people feel better naturally. We put a high premium on education and research by continuing to support The Beljanski Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to establishing partnerships with academic institutions to study the health benefits of plants.

Most of our clients come to us because they seek natural support as they cope with cancer and other chronic diseases.

Tell us about yourself

As a French lawyer by trade, I started my business out of indignation as I witnessed the way the French government violently put an end to the only French independent cancer research laboratory.

After winning a case by unanimous decision before the European Court of Human Rights, I decided to turn this knowledge into a business and keep helping people. Every testimonial of a satisfied customer keeps me going (Thank god, there are many!).

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I came here as an immigrant, speaking broken English. People didn't take me seriously. I was once told, "Tell your boss to give me a call." Now that I have become a respected business owner, a sought-after speaker, and a successful author whose face has graced the covers of a few magazines, I am being told, "I recognized you from your picture."

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is that you are never done!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You are in for the long haul. As you grow, new challenges will appear. Accept that you will never be in a "safe zone."
  2. No task will be below you, and no problem can be pushed back as "beyond your understanding." You have got to learn to figure it out, whatever "it" is, and flexibility is the name of the game.
  3. Create a great support team!!! You WON'T do it alone.
