Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Greg Alexander, founder of Magki Farms, located in Washington Crossing, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Magki Farms, we aim to challenge the status quo and improve access to healthy food for all while minimizing the impact on the environment. We believe everyone deserves options that are fresh, nutritious, and clean. Our team accomplishes this by growing locally, year-round, using innovative agricultural practices while limiting waste. We value the importance of partnering with the local community while providing a commitment to our customers.

The herbs and leafy greens we grow are delivered to our customers within 24 hours of harvest. This ensures our produce are at its peak and will maintain its freshness. Our customers seek out the quality, value, and transparency that Magki Farms offers.

Tell us about yourself

The inspiration for Magki Farms came from our daughters. The desire to know where, when, and how their food was grown drove me to understand the agricultural supply chain better. Unfortunately, those questions could not be easily answered and left me with more questions. I realized that if I had these concerns, others did too and would seek out farms that are transparent in how they operate and part of the local community. The desire to grow high-quality produce for our community drives us to strive for excellence in what we do at Magki Farms.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Demonstrating to our daughters that starting and growing a business takes a lot of work and requires a significant amount of resilience. But it is also extremely rewarding with the right mindset, attitude, and support from family and friends.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The responsibility you have to your employees and customers. This causes you to always be thinking about how to be better. You are continuously trying to figure out how to make that next sale or where the next opportunity will arise.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always be hustling.
  2. Don’t settle for the status quo.
  3. Hire great people. They are key to your success.
