What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach entrepreneurs how to write words that sell without sounding sales-y! Copy is anywhere there are words that describe you, your business, or your brand. Copywriting is the art and science of using those words to get a reader to take the desired action, that action could be anything from subscribing to an email list to buying a $10K coaching program.

Copywriting is one of the most underrated skills anyone can possibly have in business, and yet it's so often overlooked! My mission is to help NON-writers learn to write their own high-converting copy so they can save thousands of dollars (and hundreds of hours!) wasting money on outsourcing their copy or writing themselves in circles.

Tell us about yourself

Many people are shocked to learn I spent ten years as a successful actress and screenwriter. I was on "famous" tv shows like New Girl and Modern Family, and I shared the screen with giant movie stars like Zac Efron. But after a decade in entertainment, something was missing. I wasn't feeling that same spark of joy and creative fulfillment as anyone.

I spent a year intentionally identifying what my gifts were and what kind of work made me feel alive and excited. The day I found copywriting, it was like a cartoon light bulb went off over my head!

I could use what I'd learned as an actress/screenwriter about storytelling and connecting with people on an emotional level and marry that with my love of helping women find financial freedom through business.

Now, with my company Magic Words Copywriting, I spend every day helping people build a personal brand they love so they can start communicating in a way that reflects who they truly are, in a way that connects with the right customers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have to pinch myself every time I log into my course hosting platform and see that 9,000+ people have enrolled in my classes! The fact that so many entrepreneurs have been helped by something I made with love is truly the most fulfilling feeling I could ever hope for.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's so difficult to wear all the hats and stay organized! It's easy to get bogged down in all the different strategies and platforms, and technologies, and in fact, that's what I believe holds so many folks back from pulling the trigger to start their businesses. That's why it's so important to me that my products and courses are as simple as possible. We need more content that's valuable and encouraging

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Well, it should come as no surprise that my top tip is to learn how to write your own copy! Why? Because copy is everywhere from the words on your website to your emails, to your social media captions, to any digital products, to presentations, to bios...copy touches absolutely everything in your business, so why wouldn't you give yourself a shortcut and learn what converts.

Next, I'd recommend investing in your email list. The fastest way to do this is to create a fantastic freebie that feeds directly into your paid offer (I teach people exactly how to do this in my signature course, Copy Class), then promote that freebie on aligned podcasts and social media lives.

Last, and this is one you might not hear that often but damn is it valuable: write an FAQ page for your website!! If anyone tries to take advantage of your time, send 'em to the FAQ page. If people keep asking the same things over and over, send 'em to the FAQ page. If people want to learn more but don't have time for a consultation, send 'em to the FAQ page! It's truly such a valuable thing to have on your website, and so many entrepreneurs skip it.
