Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Madhupriya Srinivasan, Motivational Artist & Founder of Madhu's Art Nook, located in Plano, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a motivational artist creating calming and empowering art. Inspired by life and nature, my art resonates with the belief that we all are unique and we all have the potential to make our dreams come true. My art is about valuing your inherent value and self-worth and is for everyone who wants a beautiful motivational reminder in their lives!

Tell us about yourself

I was a hobby artist for the longest time, and then 6 years back, I started my business as a professional artist and art instructor. The joy of the creative process and the excitement of sharing it with the world is my motivation. Art is a universal language, and I am so thankful to be able to connect with people from different parts of the world through my art.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I celebrate every win, big or small. I am proud of each show, each award, and opportunity that has come my way. My biggest achievement, though, is the joy and privilege of being a part of the lives and homes of my art collectors. When they share with me that my art connects with their soul and resonates with them each day, I feel humbled.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, one of the hardest things in running my business has been time management. I am learning to prioritize and delegate some of the admin work so I can focus more on the creative aspect of it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Starting your own business is very exciting. But it comes with its own share of challenges. Here are the pillars which helped me grow my business:

  1. Have Clarity, and know what you really want to do. Do not start a business just because it seems to be popular and everyone else seems to be doing it. Choose something that you are passionate about and really believe in.
  2. Have Courage. Value yourself and your vision. People may not always support your ideas but do not let that stop you. Believe in yourself and follow your dreams. You got this!
  3. Have Self-integrity. Running and growing your own business needs a lot of commitment, and you need to be self-integral to ensure things happen.
