Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in digital marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Isa Gautschi, CEO & Founder of M.Isa Messaging, located in Beavercreek, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi, I'm the Marketing Confidence Cheerleader and owner of the M.Isa Messaging Digital Marketing Agency. I work with small businesses and solopreneurs in health, wellness, beauty, professional services, and creative arts.

Tell us about yourself

Never underestimate the power of a good story. I've been a writer all my life: a newspaper reporter, a corporate marketer, a secret/amateur poet & playwright, and now the Marketing Confidence Cheerleader. Shaping the narrative is an incredibly powerful way to create change in the world and blast open new opportunities. Nothing brings me more joy than helping my fellow creative rebels own their own stories and use them to build irresistible brands and incredible communities.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm most proud to watch my clients succeed while doing business in their way: inclusive, ethical, and utterly original. Of course, it makes me feel good when clients tell me about their financial success after investing in working with me (one client just told me they made back 8x the investment in the first few days of their soft launch alone), but the thing that brings me the most joy is to give people their spark back. My clients went into business because they wanted to make the world better. Running a business is stressful, and marketing can often feel very triggering. I love being that support, that mirror that reminds people why they got into business in the first place and why the world needs their work.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Making peace with uncertainty. Learning to have confidence before external validation. Taking on the radical responsibility of making your own rules.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you have a strong and consenting emotional support system that won't try to talk you out of your dreams or feed into your doubt. I highly recommend finding a good community of entrepreneurs in addition to going to therapy.
  2. Get yourself a good mentor or three.
  3. Get enough sleep. Take a couple of days a week totally off. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Too many new business owners run themselves into the ground early in the game because toxic grind culture got to them.
