Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lynn Marble, Master General Agent and Owner of Phoenix Health Insurance, located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an independent Health and Life Insurance Agency. We service Individuals, Families, Medicare Beneficiaries, and Small Business owners.

Tell us about yourself

I am married to my best friend and celebrating 22 years and five kids together. Today we both compete in Amature Bodybuilding and Figure Competitions across the US. In 2008 I was desperately unhappy with my profession in the car business. I sacrificed my family life for a decent paycheck but was always chasing a carrot that could never be caught. The dealership lost its love for its employees and started putting profit over people first and saw my pay plan change nine times in 24 months. I was desperate and got on my knees one day and asked God to help me find a profession where I could help people but still make a decent living. I promised that if I could find this, I would drag as many good people along with me. So shortly after this, I was offered a demotion at work and took my exit riding a wave of faith into the Insurance Industry. I originally thought I was going to sell life insurance, but because of my need to find Health Insurance for my family, I suddenly had to become a consumer. After being bombarded with calls and finding that everyone simply wanted to push one product down my throat, I realized that there was no one out there that would give me the transparency and comparisons to show me as a consumer what was best for my family and me. That's when I realized that maybe I should be selling Health Insurance because I can't be the only one that is having a hard time figuring this out.

Today after over 7000 clients, my passion is helping my agents get to a point where their residual income allows them to enjoy their lives, families, and passions without having to stress about money as I did for so many years.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think that what makes me feel proud about our business is knowing that I Literally started by making my first calls out of my garage (because I had a bedroom house and no office and kids that were loud). That we have taken helped over 10000 clients and, in the process, created large residual incomes for my agency partners. We currently have two locations, and in 2020 I bought my first building--that felt good.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Having to be a bad guy when it's time to part with a client or an agent--no one likes to disappoint or be disappointed in.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Realize that if you work as 1/2 as hard for yourself as you do for someone else, you can't lose.
  2. Failure is not an option.
  3. If you do what's right...you can't go wrong.
