Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lynda Koshy, a creative designer and artist based in Coppell, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nature and figures are recurring themes in my work. My goal is to inspire others to discover beauty in unusual places. My process involves careful observation and engagement of the subject. I use traditional materials like ink, oils, pastels, and charcoal and repetition of patterns to create movement and harmony. I work with designers, clients commissioning one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork, galleries and participate in many shows in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Tell us about yourself

I started my career path following in my parent's footsteps and went to Medical School, not realizing motherhood would change my perspective. As a child, I was always fascinated with drawing, coloring, and scrapbooking. I still remember my art classes and teachers from childhood that inspired me. Raising three children who are pursuing their goals has motivated me to pursue my love for art. Five and a half years ago, I enrolled in my first class at Dallas College. I received my Associate's Degree in Print Design last May, but my true love is Fine Art. I have been featured in Art magazines, and my work has been shown at many galleries and Art shows in Dallas. I am thankful every day for being a part of the Art community in Dallas, and I look forward to growing and expanding my Art business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I love creating. The challenging part is not in the creating but in the business aspect of being an independent Artist. It takes a lot of hard work, perseverance, and determination. I always try to stay true to who I am and what I show to the world.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Besides working long hours, there is unpredictability with owning your own business. Every day there will be new challenges and obstacles to deal with. This is why I try to remain true to my work and my process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

No matter how beautiful your Artwork is, the hardest part of growing a business is getting people to know that you exist. I can't stress more the importance of social media and having your own website. Showing your work in galleries and shows gives you great exposure. Lastly and most importantly, keep going. Don't give up. Perseverance in any successful business is paramount.
