Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lynda Fraser, Founder of Lynda Layne Consulting, located in Mount Hope, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I take a unique approach using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to compassionately work with your adverse behaviors, personality, and even your mental health struggles to make you more motivated, productive and confident. I will provide you with effective coping skills and personal life and career plan that positively resonates with your goals, mental wellness, and life and career choices. At the completion of this program, you will want to excel, set realistic, accomplishable goals, and establish healthy boundaries and relationships. I currently work with individuals ages 16 and up individually or in group sessions.

Tell us about yourself

I am an Award-winning Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Practitioner and Master Life and Career Coach. I began counseling graduate students at a local university and realized I was making a difference in assisting these students. After I left the university, I enrolled in several certification courses, completing over 15 different certifications, including my CBT professional accreditation Master Life Coaching, Career Counsellor, and Certified Counsellor. I then started my own business and quickly saw success with my clients, who were making complete positive life changes after working with me. Making a positive difference in someone's life is what motivates me. Seeing them accomplish goals, eliminate phobias, or find success in a new career is so rewarding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has had a client who suffered from agoraphobia, high anxiety, and OCD, now making a positive difference in the lives of others as a PSW. Here is someone who was so afraid to leave her home, had no self-esteem, and felt her life was miserable can now thrive and enjoy her life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the time to do admin work and keep my social media sites regularly active and informative.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, do your research on the business you wish to start. Second, know who your competition is and as much as you can about these other businesses. And lastly, come up with a way you can make yourself unique from other businesses in the same industry so you can offer something they don't!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Starting a business sounds easy, but you will only be successful if you do your research, make a serious commitment to your business - treat it like an FT business and not a side gig, and always stay up-to-date with the latest resources and knowledge about your business. For me, I am constantly learning either through courses, networking or media research, etc.
