Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lydia Hiby, an animal communicator based in Panama City Beach, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’ve been an animal communicator for 40 years. Helping people over the phone and also in person. I also teach on Zoom.

Tell us about yourself

As a child, my mom said I wanted to be a fairy godmother to animals. And so I’m living my dream of helping animals and their parents.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My book “Conversations with Animals” was published in 1998. I was also featured on “The Tonite Show,” “48 Hours”, and “The View.”

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Anybody who’s considering a business where you’re self-employed will have to be very self-disciplined because the hours are all over when clients need you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a deep passion for whatever your work is going to be; then, it’s not a job.
  2. Social media promotion is very important.
  3. Have integrity and whatever work you do.
