Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nichole Hemming, Co-Owner of Relax and CBD, located in Littleton, Colorado, United States.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Justin and Nichole are co-owners for Relax and CBD. They manufacture and distribute luxury organic, all-natural CBD spa and bath products. Their ideal customer would be someone that needed some extra relief with their topical pain, inflammation, needs to detox their skin, needs help with cell regeneration, exfoliation, etc. They believe that anyone trying to benefit from improving their skin should enjoy a luxury product at an affordable price point.

Tell us about yourself

Nichole was diagnosed with cancer at age 26. Between all the surgeries and radiation she had to do, it took a huge toll on her skin. She was prescribed upwards of 15 different medicines. She felt like she wasn’t functioning properly as both a worker and a mother. She had always played around with doing her own all-natural bath treatments.

Around that time, cannabis was becoming regulated legally within her state, Colorado. She heard about all the great health properties of the cannabis leaf, and she decided to dabble and incorporate CBD within her spa and bath treatments. When she saw a noticeable difference in her skin, she started manufacturing the same products for close friends and family.

Her close friend and co-owner, Justin, got injured while playing a competitive soccer game one day. Nichole shared her spa and bath treatments with him, and Justin was amazed by how well they worked. From there, the two of them decided to start a business to help the people around them with their topical needs. What truly motivates Justin and Nichole Is helping the people around them with good all-natural ingredients and a properly tested product.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment would be how many people we have reached with our products and basic education on cannabis. It is still incredibly new, and there are almost daily new developments and breakthroughs. We love to share all this wonderful health knowledge about it. But we also enjoyed hearing other people's stories on how this amazing plant has helped them in their daily lives.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about becoming a business owner would be the fact that you constantly are thinking about all your employees. Not only are we, as business owners, trying to spread the education, but we are constantly making sure that we have sales. Because all of our employees have their own families, they have to feed and homes they have to pay for. You tend to take on your employees as if they were part of your own family by making sure they are ok before we worry about ourselves. It can be hard, but it’s also incredibly rewarding with how tight-knit our company has become.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a great business plan so that it helps build a sturdy foundation so you can build up off of that.
  2. Don’t get discouraged. You can have 50 no’s before you get that one yes that you have been waiting for. Just give whatever business you start its due diligence and patience. Don’t be hard on yourself; you got this!
  3. The third tip, this is incredibly important, have an absolute passion for whatever business you are trying to start. It won’t go very far if you aren’t fully passionate and invested in it.
