Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shara Gabaldon, Founder of Luxe Beauty And Body Co., located in Sacramento, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We have online beauty and body courses that are affordable, accessible 24/7, never expire, and can be completed within days in the comfort of your home. Our ideal customers are men and women age 18+ interested in the beauty business or looking to expand their business by adding more services.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a habitual entrepreneur with a business and finance background. Taking a leap of faith into the beauty business was completely foreign to me; however, I saw the potential early on. I started out providing services part-time while working a full-time job and quickly built the business to make six figures in the first year within months. I was able to grow and expand by providing education, and that's what exploded the business.

The positive feedback from students, followers, and fellow women who are inspired by me is what keeps me motivated. I have overcome two major life-altering events while building my business, and seeing how it has inspired so many others to keep pushing forward is what reminds me I'm here for a purpose.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I was able to build the business to make six figures the first year within months by providing services and was able to build the business to make $1M within six months by providing education. This is all while working a full-time job and having no previous beauty business experience.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I'm a self-starter by nature and carry many attributes that being self-employed requires. I think the hardest thing for me to learn was dealing with negativity from internet trolls. I've heard of this behavior occurring; however, I thought it only happened with famous people. I quickly found out and realized, "I think we made it," when we started experiencing it. I had to learn not to let it get to me, block them, and move on. I figured, "I must be doing something right if they are coming for me."

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Being self-employed is a marathon, not a race. You are in it for the long haul. Slow and steady wins the race.
  2. Don't just "set it and forget it." You will need to constantly tweak what works and what doesn't. Every day we are figuring out what works and how to improve it or fix what isn't.
  3. Technology is your friend. Spend time learning social media, apps for your business, advertising, etc.
