Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lucy Hutchings, Owner of Wellness From Within Nutrition, LLC., located in New Ipswich, NH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. I help busy moms lose weight, increase energy, and decrease inflammation by using the Anti-inflammatory Diet to live their best life! I provide one-on-one nutrition coaching through a 12-week program that walks each person through a method of learning to implement the diet and lifestyle that works for each unique situation to create real, sustainable changes.

Tell us about yourself

I spent 14 years working as a clinical inpatient dietitian at a local hospital, and I saw a lot of people missing the root cause of their problems and diseases. I saw people relying on medications and procedures rather than prevention and treatment with diet and lifestyle changes.

Many people I work with have gone through the medical system being passed from doctor to doctor only to increase the number of medications they are on, becoming frustrated with the situation and feeling unheard. I genuinely believe there is a better way. I started my private practice to work with women who want to improve their life naturally through the power of the anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been getting through the first several months of entrepreneurship. I have discovered that starting a business and not giving up takes more strength than many people realize.

I spent months working hard and not making any money or traction. I felt like I wasn't being seen or heard and struggled to get things going. Strength, grit, and perseverance have been necessary to get this business to grow.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the most challenging part of being a business owner has been getting past my mental blocks. Mindset has been the most difficult thing to shift on this journey. Feeling the self-doubt and fear seep in and slow me down, trick me up, and prevent forward motion has kept me company along this journey.

I have had to push through those feelings and do complex, challenging, uncomfortable things and allow myself to feel that discomfort, acknowledge it, and move on. Putting myself out there on social media, reaching out to strangers and starting conversations, getting on the phone with people, and asking for a sale have all been fears I have found the strength to overcome.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Tips for anyone starting, running, and growing a business:

  1. Believe in yourself. Don't let anyone else's doubts, fears, and negative comments prevent you from doing what you believe in.
  2. Encourage yourself to do difficult, uncomfortable, complicated things. The more you do, the more you realize what you are capable of, and the easier it will become.
  3. Don't do it alone. Invest in a coach and stop wasting time trying to figure it out on your own. You don't need to. Open yourself to guidance and help from business coaches in your field that can provide support, expertise, and wisdom.
