Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Merrick Gallegos, Owner of Lucidaesthetix, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a Beauty Studio in the heart of Ballard, Wa. I offer a handful of services, from lash extensions to facials, including more intense facial options such as Microneedling. I am one of the very few estheticians in that immediate area, so I have quite a few Ballard local clients and some that travel from up north away.

Tell us about yourself

I started beauty school in 2017; I had just gotten through a divorce and moved from out of state to Seattle. I had always wanted to become an esthetician, but it never seemed possible in my situation. When I enrolled, I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to juggle it all while having to work full time. I had been working at a spa at the desk throughout my course, and it was there I realized I needed to work for myself. The beauty industry can get very toxic, and I was very motivated to create a space for girls that helped them succeed. I absolutely love that I have the ability to make women feel amazing and boost their confidence.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My new location in Ballard has been a dream since the day I started school. I never thought it would be possible.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Juggling all that comes with the type of business I have can be extremely challenging as I don’t really like to relinquish control, so I do everything from services to taxes to designing and creating all of my logos and graphics. It’s very difficult to separate work and home.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Take each step as it comes. Don’t rush through just because you want to be where someone else is with their business. The growth along the way is so important to success.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you’re looking for business advice, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I also have a podcast called Beauty Culture that I started just for beauty professionals.
