Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lucía Martínez Valhondo, founder of Change Happens Psicología, located in Madrid, Spain.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm in charge of "Change Happens Psicología," a psychology center where I attend to people who suffer from different sorts of problems such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, OCD, and so on. Also, I accompany people in managing different kinds of illnesses, and I teach several courses related to this. My online course, `Qué duermas bien'on Consejos Dormir Bien platform, is about learning to make insomnia worse because before finding solutions to solve a problem, you have to find out all the different ways to make it worse. This course is for those trying to avoid insomnia who have managed to make it worse.

Tell us about yourself

I found out that most people who come to therapy end up having psychological issues because they try to solve them using dysfunctional, apparently logical solutions. And every time they apply this solution, the problem worsens. So when I had the chance to connect this with insomnia problems, I thought about all those who have insomnia because they tried to avoid it. What motivates me to do my job is simple: life is not easy at all, and we need someone to rely on and learn all the tools we need to make this journey easier.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a course creator, my biggest accomplishment is trying to communicate in an easy and available way how all the issues are created by using useless solutions and giving useful tools to solve the problems in the shortest time possible.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a course creator, the hardest thing is offering a different view and trying to captivate the attention of those who need a solution for their problems. Normally, they have tried everything to solve the problems, and it is very frustrating to start something new.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If you want to build a course:

  1. Adjust expectations: every step, course, and the project you make is one more step in learning.
  2. Be kind to yourself: it is easy to know how to make things right when you look back. Success and failure come hand in hand, and both teach us golden lessons. In fact, no one is safe from mistakes. To fail is to find out how not to do things well.
  3. Be kind to others and learn to listen: many people can give you great advice, and learning from others makes you wiser.
