Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lucia Gallegos, a registered Psychotherapist based in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Psychotherapist. I help Spanish-speaking women who experience self-doubt and feel anxious and stuck in their lives to build fierce confidence and reconnect with themselves.

Tell us about yourself

I was born in Mexico and had been living in Toronto for more than thirteen years. I have a bachelor's in Communications, and I hold a Master's in Arts Counselling Psychology. These two careers have allowed working with one of my biggest passions, human connections. My previous professional experience involved the areas of public relations and marketing, where I discovered the importance of listening to others' concerns and using compassion and empathy as effective ways to communicate with others. Being aware of this experience gave me the opportunity to explore a new career where I could use these skills. Thus, becoming a psychotherapist has been a special journey where I have found that helping others to experience their own personal journeys is my mission. I strongly believe that each person is unique and capable of using challenges as growth opportunities. During my life, I have experienced different changes. One of the most insightful experiences was moving to Canada. Leaving my beloved family and friends behind and starting my life in a warm and welcoming country like Canada involved different emotions at the same time. This personal journey, among others, has allowed me to understand and accept life transitions as part of our existence and happiness. As one of my favourite quotes says, "Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I enjoy that; thanks to my business, I help women to build trust, compassion, and kindness toward themselves in the middle of chaos.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Facing fear, doubt, and a sense of isolation.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Face your fears: You will experience fear. That is for sure. Name what your fear the most. In some cases, it is fear to fear itself. Fear could be an ally. Fail forward: It has been during this part of the journey that I have taken the time to evaluate and build the courage to reinvent my business. Build a community with other peers or colleagues: It is our own journey, but we do not have to go through it alone!
