Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa MarcAurele, Founder and CEO of Low Carb Yum LLC., located in Hartford, CT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Low Carb Yum is a digital media company that primarily focuses on low-carb recipes and information about following an eating plan that is low in carbohydrates.
Tell us about yourself
I got into food blogging in 2010 when very few low-carb recipes were available online. As I started to experiment with creating my own recipes, I began saving them into an online blog which eventually grew to have a large following.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Becoming a cookbook author is what I am most proud of as a business owner.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Managing time and setting priorities has always been a struggle. It did take a while for me to start turning over some of the work to others so I could free up my own time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Hire help early when enough funds are available. It isn't worth taking on most of the work yourself, even if the profits are less.
- Do not give up! Starting your own business will be challenging in the beginning. It takes time to grow your brand name and customer base. It gets easier once you reach a level where you can afford to add team members.
- Find support from other similar business owners. Most are open to sharing their experiences, so you don't make common mistakes and focus on what is most important.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
It is a lot of work to run a successful business, and you may end up working more hours than a regular full-time job. But it can be very rewarding.
Where can people find you and your business?
If you like what you've read here and have your own story as a solo or small business entrepreneur that you'd like to share, then please answer these interview questions. We'd love to feature your journey on these pages.
