Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Liliya Vafina, Co-Founder of Lovinlunch, located in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our company is called LovinLunch, and we are a kids' meal kit delivery company in the Greater Vancouver area. Our aim is to empower busy parents to have fun with kids' lunches (including the dreaded school lunches) to bring balance and peace of mind by providing the simplest way to feed kids - with a fun twist. All our meal kits include premium ingredients and easy instructions to make a main course which takes from 10 to 15 min, a hefty portion of fresh fruit and vegetables, a fun small treat sure to bring a smile, and a thoughtful little note that can be customized with a loving note form "The Chef" All meals are nutritionally balanced so parents can take that worry off their list as well.

Tell us about yourself

After Olga and I became mothers and experienced parenthood in the modern world with its kaleidoscope of daycare and school drop-offs and pickups, lunch packing, grocery shopping, busy jobs - the never stopping hamster wheel of a young family - we knew parents needed help like never before. We wanted to delegate some of these tasks. And like so many parents today, we did not have "a village" to help us. We both saw this as an opportunity to make a difference, and that's how Lovinlunch was born. Lovinlunch aims to help busy parents take one worry off their plates. We make kid's meals easy - whether it is daily school lunch packing ordeal, dinner, or a weekend meal.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to operate and grow our business staying true to our core values and our big purpose. Being able to unleash our creativity and express our authentic selves in every aspect of the business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being vulnerable. Having to make hard decisions with no guarantees.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it now, don't wait for perfection. Improve along the way. Learn as you go.
  2. Make small steps every day, no matter how small, and keep moving forward.
  3. Be patient. Understand that developing a business takes time. Do not be afraid to tweak things and see how it changes the outcomes.
