What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Registered Psychologist and Certified Sex Therapist providing psychological services to individuals, couples, and families looking to improve their well-being and life satisfaction. I am working with two other Registered Psychologists, a Sex Educator and a Certified Counsellor, to provide comprehensive care under the business, Loving Choices Ltd. Our clients seek improvements in their relationships and happiness, as well as seek to mitigate mental health symptoms and barriers to optimization.
Tell us about yourself
Every day is different in this business, and I can never anticipate what each day will look like. That keeps me curious, and I'm constantly learning from my clients about the nature of wellness and repair.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have expanded Loving Choices during the COVID-19 pandemic and am proud of our ability to grow under challenging circumstances.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I went to school to learn how to be a psychologist, not a business owner, so I've been learning so much on the fly and relying on others for their help and support. There is so much to learn that being a psychologist could only partly prepare me for.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be passionate - you can't do this without a strong and deep drive to succeed at what you are doing.
- Be prepared for adversity - you won't do this without adversity and extreme challenges where nobody would blame you for quitting.
- Honour and respect diversity - all businesses must be able to use the strengths of diversity to succeed in any endeavour.
