What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lovely Heart Life is a blog and shop that provides educational content for early childhood. We give ideas and products to help parents jumpstart their child's education without the stress and extra work.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Courtney, and I have a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. I've always loved teaching, but I had my first child right after graduating with my degree, and I didn't have the opportunity to find a job in the classroom. I've always loved creating curriculum and lesson plans, so I decided to start a business where I could provide that to parents and teachers who teach children ages 2-5.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The most significant part is connecting with other parents and hearing how much they and their children love our products.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding a good work/life balance is the hardest thing. Especially being a stay-at-home mom, it's sometimes hard for me to sit down and get a lot of work done. I work late in the night instead of during the day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- First, flesh out precisely what you want your business to offer, and take your time. Start simple and then add more ideas later.
- Research and learn how to work social media. Businesses rely on advertising on social media nowadays, so knowing how all of that works has helped me.
- Lastly, choose something that you are passionate about. Starting your own business is your chance to have a job you love. It's risky and hard work but worth it when you're providing people with services and products, you care about and are proud of.
