Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Mason, Founder of Love Chef Laura, located in Traverse City, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Love Chef Laura, a food blog where I share gluten-free and dairy-free recipes. I am also a recipe developer and food photographer. My customers are anyone looking for healthy and easy-to-make delicious recipes. I also talk about my autoimmune diseases and how food has impacted my healing.

Tell us about yourself

I have been cooking and baking since I was 8 years old. I'm a professionally trained chef with over ten years of experience in the restaurant industry. I left the kitchen due to toxic work environments and burnout. A few years after leaving the industry, I started Love Chef Laura as a way to be creative and share recipes with the world. After having my kids and being diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases, my business took on a different role of sharing healthy recipes with an autoimmune focus.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

How many people I have connected with since starting Love Chef Laura. As I said before, my brand took on a different identity due to my chronic illnesses, and I am grateful for it. I am very grateful for the friendships I have established and people I have met through similar life circumstances, and the love of food.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balance. I'm a stay-at-home mom with a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start by creating a brand. Having a clear vision will allow the rest to fall into place.
  2. Expect your vision to evolve over time.
  3. Just do it. Starting is the hardest part.
